The Blessed Bag mission began with our founder, Kristina, at the end of 2009 with a desire to pay tribute to her dear friend, Jennifer Staley, who passed away after several months of being in the hospital. Jen was an amazing teacher who loved helping little ones learn to read. God put it on Kristina’s heart to start a charity in Jen’s honor to give a bag with a book, a bear, and a blanket to children in the hospital battling cancer.

The Scripture God gave Kristina at that time was 1 Corinthians 13:13, “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” Our desire is to grow faith, bring hope, and most of all show God’s love to those that are given a Blessed Bag. This verse has continued to be the foundation for all that we do.

In February 2014, Kristina learned of an effort to give bags to cancer patients. This is a cause near to Kristina’s heart as she has two close family members who are breast cancer survivors. After seeing firsthand the difficult journey that cancer patients travel, she wanted to do something to bring joy and hope and also show God’s love to them. She began to collect donations to purchase bags that would be filled with items to make chemotherapy treatments more comfortable for cancer patients. God blessed this work mightily, and in a matter of just a few days 100 Chemo Comfort Bags were ordered.

The greatest part of this adventure is the delivery of the bags. When a delivery is made, the cancer treatment center goes from a place of gloom to one of excitement! It was learned immediately that it must be stressed that these bags are FREE! The patients simply can’t believe that something so beautiful and of such high quality would be free with no obligation attached to it. When the patient is allowed to pick their favorite pattern, both the giver and the recipient are filled with joy. The patients seem to turn into kids on Christmas morning as they are handed the bag they have chosen and excitedly open it up to check out the goodies inside! It is a joy to talk to the patients, hear their stories and offer hope and encouragement.

After seeing the reaction of Chemo Comfort Bag recipients, we knew that we must continue the work of showing God’s love and begin the charity He designed five years ago.

We have updated the name of our Chemo Comfort Bag to Warrior bag to inspire and empower our recipients.

The founders of Blessed Bag are passionate to bring hope and show God’s love to those going through the most difficult situations with a Blessed Bag!

Testimonials

As a patient going through cancer treatment, it has meant so much to be surrounded by so many caring and supportive people throughout this journey. I have seen and received so many acts of kindness that I can't help but smile because people are rooting for me. The chemo bag I received is an example of how people show their support and let you know that they care. I love my bag and it's not only useful, but also a reminder that I'm not alone in this fight.
